Yes, I know to keep the scanner as clean as possible :)

Basically, I have many, many strips of old film from our travels, and many hundred processed photos and film from the first 2 years since our twins were born.

I want to slowly start digitizing them.

I have an Epson Perfection V300 Photo scanner with a special frame for film.

So far, I am running into two issues:

- when I attempt to scan film, I am getting a very weird color cast.

- the scanned photos turn out too contrasty, very grainy, and with some noticeable loss of DR.

If anyone can share any tips / tricks this would be greatly appreciated !

Here's one photo (processed) that I think turned out OK.. but could be better.

And here are the settings I use for scanner

Take a look here:

http://www.colorperfect.com …es/creating-linear-scans/ (external link)

for tips on creating linear scans of negatives for conversion with the ColorPerfect "coloneg" module. Even if you do not end up using ColorPerfect, it may be worth the read.

If you can, just go to this link http://www.howtogeek.com …get-an-even-better-image/ (external link) , it has perfectly pointed out how a perfect scanning can be done. The settings are shown with screen shot as well.

Thanks ! Will definitely read the sources.

I can figure out the print scanning, eventually, but the negatives scanning is a different beast. I have negatives from our trip to Paris 15 years ago when CVS photo lab screwed up the films, resulting in many prints being too dark. (A single roll of film that I forgot to bring to the store was developed separately and came out perfect so I know it wasn't the camera issue). I hope if I can get decent high resolution scans I could salvage a few of the best shots in post. As I said, the biggest problem is the weird color cast I am getting.

If you have the time, read through the link I posted and scan a negative according to the instructions on making a linear scan. If you send me a link to download that scan, as well as the film type, I will run it through colorneg for you and post the result.

As I have not faced the same kind of problem yet, so dont know why this problem is occurring here. Just go through the post during printing.
