Update: Sold!

Up for sale is my Canon EF 100-400L Version 1 lens.

I recently upgraded to the Mark II version of this lens and am ready to sell this gem. It is in outstanding condition. I purchased this USA lens in November of 2012. After purchasing it, I shifted towards portraiture and was not shooting subjects that required a lot of reach. And when I did start shooting wildlife and birds, I mostly used my newly acquired 500L. I just checked my Aperture library and I have only taken 942 pictures with this lens, so it has seen very little use and is in outstanding condition. It literally has only been used on three outings. The glass is pristine and the body does not have any scratches or blemishes. The lens hood does have a couple of very minor scuffs, however, I am proud to report there is not a single piece of dust visible inside the lens. I will also include the new Canon center-pinch lens cap, which I bought after this lens came out.

I have found this lens to have excellent IQ and it produces sharp images on both my 5D Mark III and 7D Mark II. It comes from a non-smoking pet-free home and has always been stored in a climate-controlled and humidity-controlled case when not in use.

Yes, the new Mark II has some advantages over the Mark I, however this lens is a steal when you consider that I am selling it for a thousand dollars less than the Mark II. It is a stellar performer that shines in street photography, wildlife, birding, daylight sports and more.

At B&H, the price of this lens is currently $1,299:

At Adorama, the price of this lens is currently $1,299:

I will sell this lens for $865, and as always with everything I sell, I’ll pay the PayPal fees and USPS Priority Mail shipping costs. Please know up front that I’m pricing this extremely well at a no-haggle price and the price is firm. Yes, a few used 100-400s for sale on POTN have sold for slightly less, but none have the ultra-low mileage this lens has. The lens will arrive in its Canon box as if it were new and the Canon box will be over-protected with excellent padding inside an ultra-strong double-corrugated cardboard box. You’re assured of a premium service when I sell to you!

I have sold and bought a lot of things on POTN over the years and I have a reputation for providing exact descriptions of what I sell, and I always follow through with excellent communication. I am a trusted seller and you can find excellent feedback on me by searching for my user name in this thread here. At this time, I am only interested in selling it within the CONUS and will only sell to a verified PayPal shipping address. I reserve the right to research feedback or posting history and sell to a buyer of my choosing.

If I can answer any questions for you, please do not hesitate to ask. I enjoy talking about lenses and helping people choose gear that is right for them.

Thanks for looking!
Bryan

I'll agree that this is an excellent lens. Perhaps not the version II, but well worth the asking price. I would not consider selling mine for that price. Anyway... I just wanted to chime in with the fact that I have purchased three lenses on POTN from Canadian sellers. I live in Indiana. There has never been an issue with Customs or duties. All three were properly declared on the appropriate (attached to package) Customs forms. I would not hesitate to buy or sell camera gear across the border.

will you ship to canada

Hi roxiedog! Thanks for checking in with me.

I normally don't ship to Canada due to the extra paperwork, time, and additional cost. Under normal circumstances, I ship directly from home whereas if I ship to Canada, then I have to go to the Post Office so they can review and accept the customs forms. The Post Office is a 25-30 min drive each way plus waiting in line easily has the potential to take upwards of a another 20-35 mins, so it takes about an hour and a half out of the day. I wish that wasn't the case (I really do), but that's just the way it works around here. Also, shipping and insurance costs a lot more. And last but not least, PayPal charges higher fees as well, which adds up to even more too.

I will consider selling to a well-established and reputable POTN forum member in Canada if they will cover the shipping costs and the extra PayPal costs associated with international payments. I just checked the exact cost for mailing to most places in Canada and for the 100-400 via Priority Mail International, the cost is $44.11. It says delivery will take 6-10 business days, unless there is an excessive delay in customs. Internet research says most packages are delivered faster than that, but sometimes customs can cause delays. As for the addiitonal PayPal costs, PayPal charges an additional 1% foreign transaction fee and a 2.5% foreign currency conversion fee. I will still cover the original PayPal costs of 2.9%, but you would need to cover the additional 3.5% in foreign fees.

In summary, the extra costs would be $44 in shipping and $31 to cover the additional PayPal fees. This would bring the total cost to $940 USD.

If you want to save money, we can eliminate all of the PayPal costs if you want to send me a personal check or money order, but we would need to wait until the check/money-order clears through my bank, which can easily take upwards of 7-10 days. This would reduce the cost by $50, bringing the cost down to $890 USD. But be aware that buying something with a check or money-order takes away all of the seller protections that PayPal affords. I think it's obvious by my communications and seller's reputation here on POTN that I'm a rock-solid person to deal with, but I think t's important for everyone to be aware of what happens when you choose to deal outside of PayPal. I'm very transparent in everything I do and my absolute #1 priority is to always share knowledge with my fellow POTN photographers. (And not just "make a sale".)

I'm posting these numbers and ideas publicly in case any other Canadian POTN members are interested. And again, I'm not trying to squeeze any additional money into my pockets. These are just the extra costs involved when selling to our good friends up north.

Thanks again for checking in with me and if I can provide any additional info, please do not hesitate to ask.

Cheers!
Bryan

Thanks Tom! It is a great lens for a steal of a price. Recent prices on the 100-400 Mark I make me wish I was in the market to buy this lens!

Folks, you won't find a 100-400L Classic with this kind of low-mileage. It has only seen daylight 3 times!
