thanks for the heads up.

Requiring Mac OS 10.10, that is only a little over a year old, is bogus. They are clearly giving Windows preferential treatment in developing and testing for older set ups.

more detailed list of features: https://www.phaseone.com …ure-One-Pro/Features.aspx (external link)

Microsoft® Windows® minimum requirements
• Intel® CoreTM 2 Duo or better
• 4 GB of RAM
• 10 GB of free hard disk space
• Color calibrated monitor with 1280x800, 24-bit resolution at 96dpi screen ruling
• Windows 7® SP1 64-bit, Windows 8® 64-bit, Windows 10® 64-bit
• Microsoft® .NET Framework version 4.6 (will be installed if not present)
• A PDF reader is needed to read the Release Notes
• An Internet connection is needed when activating Capture One

Apple® Macintosh® minimum requirements
• Intel® CoreTM 2 Duo or better
• 4 GB of RAM
• 10 GB of free hard disk space
• Calibrated color monitor with 1280x800, 24-bit resolution at 96dpi
• Mac OS X 10.10.5 or 10.11.x
• An Internet connection is needed when activating Capture One Recommended system requirements
If working with high-resolution images and doing calculation-heavy adjustments we recommend the following:
• Use processors with multiple cores, e.g. Intel Core i7TM or better
• Have 16 GB of RAM or more
• Leave plenty of hard disk space free (100Gb recommended)
• A fast hard disk e.g. a Solid State Disk (SSD)
• A fast Graphics card from NVIDIA or AMD with minimum 2GB RAM

I like that Apple has allowed this, and if it were that simple it would be great, but older software is often broken when upgrading the OS. While my hardware can run 10.10, I would have to spend thousands upgrading other software.

Apple is also leaving behind older hardware at an increasing rate.

The great "throw away" mentality has finally come to personal computers.

I don't think it's PhaseOne's fault. Just from looking at the bug fix list and comparing the issues on MacOS to the ones on Windows it's clear that Mac has been giving them one heck of a time for some time now. I can't even install version 8 on my MBP which is running Lion, so I still have version 7 on.

Windows just plays nicer. Although that might change anon. When Winsux 10 was released, PhaseOne was advising users not to upgrade to it, since because of the coercive updates, the running/stability of C1P could not be guaranteed. I wonder how they got around that, but I'm still running Windows 7, so I don't have to worry about it for the time being.

Yes, the Culture of the Free is available in apple flavour now, but that's far from a boon, since you can't downgrade easily. I was thinking of getting a new laptop for on-site tethered capture, but at the time the latest version of MacOS was incompatible with C1P: the previous version was needed, and good luck getting Apple to sell you a machine with a previous version. With Windows I can still get an OEM copy of Win7 and slap it onto the computer myself, and set it up the way I want and that is salubrious to CaptureOne.

Lol it's been there for years.. Just think of all the GFX cards that comes out, the drivers and technology never catches up. It's all in theory. .-)

I do like how they are constantly improving an already good product...

The tethered capture is at least twice as fast as tethering to Lightroom.

For a RAW Processor.....90 Euros just to upgrade from 8 is a bit steep.

I don't want 3 licences, I don't tether and the new features are not that great to warrant such a high cost.

It may be good value for a pro but what about the loyal amateur network that supported this software from the start.

Can we have a 1 or 2 licence 'amateur' version please or its going to have to be LR from now on.

They are not forcing you to upgrade. From what I've read, the new features are very nice. But if the cost to upgrade is too high for you and does not offer any benefits that you need, then just keep on using the version you already own.

Cheers,
Bryan

This can't be stressed enough, for tethered shooting LR is simply no match for C1Pro

Hi Brian,

I love PhaseOne and have used it since launch..many years ago now.

Its only been just over a year and a few months since version 8 was released...and that cost me 69 Euros + VAT and that release was much more feature rich for the 'photographer'.

I will upgrade my camera in the new year and V8 will not support it.....so choices have to be made.

Also bearing in mind that an Adobe licence is only £108 for a year including VAT and you get PS, CR and LR I don't think my comments was that unreasonable.

Is a single or double licence for 50-60 euros that unreasonable...makes pretty sound business sense to me and won't start alienating loyal amateur customers like me and many others I suspect....and will open it up to the amateur community.

To be honest 90euro isn't much in terms of photography gear. If you don't want the new features you simply keep C1pro8.

The feature set and benefits on C1Pro is targeted at professionals, so making a version for amateurs doesn't seem very likely.

I think CaptureOne is definitely more geared to pros than are other RAW processors. That, in addition to C1P having the best RAW processing engine, is what makes it a winner. I like how the whole focus of the program and the development efforts are on processing images efficiently and outstandingly, and not wasted on silly mapping, books and social media sharing. It's industrial versus mass-market.

If you ask me, just the luma curves feature alone is worth the price of the upgrade.

I have Lightroom and Photoshop.

But I use Capture One Pro for Raw Processing and tethering and Photoshop for retouching.

I suppose I could use it for more.
