I have to admit it, family sessions are not my favorite. I find them difficult and I'm not thinking that they are my forte', especially when it's more than a few people -- and a dog! I still offer them, though to a limited degree, because they are so valued and needed.

Overall, I am happy with how these turned out, but I realize that each session is a learning experience. The biggest bummer of the day was that, right as we were setting up, a big wall of clouds ascended right over our setting sun -- wah!!

Along with the family shots, I take individuals, couple, and sibling ones as well for a nice, round package. Here are some of my favorites from the C Family. Feel free to ask me anything!

Wow, they all actually LOOK related! I agree though, they can be a pain. I'm trying to get away from them but I keep getting calls! I prefer pets vs kids. You can get some VERY stubborn kids who refuse to smile. Looks like the girl in the gray is in her "rebelling stage" and refusing to smile. If that's the case, you did a good job making her laugh in #7! I like #6 too. Looks better with the various poses in one shot.

Be careful posting too many pics in one thread. I got my images deleted when i posted 10 in one thread. The mod said this is not your "personal gallery" and that 8 was the max.

Thanks so much, Blake! I forgot to mention that both girls had braces, so were NOT wanting to smile and show their teeth. Teens can be a little tough, but they are my favorite (esp. high school Seniors.) Little kids are MUCH harder for me, but the adults can be very hard, too (Dad's often hate being there, Mom thinks she looks fat, etc.) Thankfully, the parents in this session were super easy-going. :)

Very nice work.

Are these all natural light?

Thanks so much, everyone -- and, yes, all natural light.

Excellent exposures. I have two redheaded girls with fair skin and I still struggle under some light. I'd say the diffused light (with your help) did the trick.

Is it just me or does it look like in the first picture that the dog is trying to mimic their smile?

6, 10 and especially 11 are my favorites, with many others close behind! I've rarely seen brown eyes looking so bright and pretty! And I'm from a brown eyed family. ;)

I like these except for the family shots where they're all posed in a straight line. My favorites are the "couples" and "kids" shots.

Canon 7D, 5D, 35L, 50 f/1.4, 85 f/1.8, 135L, 200L, 10-22, 17-55, 70-300, 100-400L, 500D, 580EX(2).
Sigma 150 macro, 1.4X, 2X, Quantaray 2X, Kenko closeup tubes, Yongnuo YN685(3), Yongnuo YN-622C-TX. Lots of studio stuff.

The funny thing is.... we all like different ones. The family will each have their favorites too. Makes it difficult to ONLY give them what you believe are the best ones. Just gotta give them a variety of your best technical photos.
