hey all...this is my first post here and I would love to improve my pictures any way I can. I took this on campus using a Tripod and converted the raw using RSE and used photoshop 7 for touching up. I did the best I could but I know it could be better....any advice or tips would be appreciated...thanks

i feel that this image would have looked better with the large pole and street central in the frame, to me it just seems out of balance as it is. Other than that the colours are great. nice work

I really like this shot. The other option is to try and get rid of the pole entirely. . . I know this isn't the best job - was in a bit of a hurry, also, it's harder with a smaller, low res image. Hope that gives you an idea though :)

I agree that the pole is quite distracting and the version w/out it seems much better. Otherwise it looks good.

No worries - to be honest, I don't think I even spent 5 mins on that attempt. What I do when cloning, is zooming in, using a 50% opacity soft edged brush, and then zoom out at fairly regular intervals to check I'm not leaving any weird patterns. I use the Photoshop functionality of making snapshots as I'm working (or just saving regularly), so if something goes wrong I don't need to redo the whole thing.

Here's another pic I took as well...I had to rotate it and then fix 3 of the windows at the top of the building by copy 3 black windows and pasting onto the 3 that were on or lit...I'd appreciate any comments on this picture...thanks

I like it, but I don't know if it's just me, but it feels like a compromise - the lit areas are a little blown, from the bright lights, but the unlit areas of the building - like around the black windows (which you did a great job on - I can't tell which ones you cut and pasted!), seem a little underexposed. Also, I think it needs to be either more wide angle, or zoom in more on some particular detail - I'm no architectural photographer - so you can probably get better critique from other people.

Your right...on my laptop, the lit areas does seem a little bright (couldn't tell on my desktop screen). Thanks for the comment on the photoshop..i'm still learning. I've never been big on shooting buildings but maybe I will now...(at least it gives me a reason to buy a good wide-angle lens...:))

I can't really see it becuse I already rotated the pic the first time...maybe my tripod is uneven or something cause I've noticed many pics taken with a tripod uneven....
