Ok guys... I ordered the Induro & K30 and the B&H rep said I got the last Induro :p

Hey, Congrats! This deal was IMHO the BEST deal on a NEW systematic style tripod in internet history!

I'm a little nervous to be going away from a tripod with a center column but I'm really excited to have a ball head. Trying to do vertical shots on my three way video head was a comedy of errors. I don't have any shoots that I need it for so I'm going to open it Christmas morning with the kiddos.

Merry Christmas all!

Don't be, if you want full flexibility, you get a short center column, or a leveling center column, or a crank center column,..

http://www.amazon.com …ared-Column/dp/B00K2Z45KY (external link)

...the list goes on, and this is why this kind of tripod is so amazing!
And unlike the old Gitzos, you can swap that top plate with the head on it of a leveling or rapid column with out any tools!

Gitzo 5 series will fit any Induro 4 or 5 series parts.

I think everything I listed above are 2/3 series Induro which will fit GITZO 2/3 and newer 4 series. (Gitzo changed which plates fit 4 series fairly recently from 5 to 3)

For example the crank column above is 2/3 series, but You can get the crank column from Induro in 4/5 series as well.

And this leveling column will fit ALL Induro Grand and ALL Gitzo systematic 2/3/4/or 5 series;

Like the Gitzo leveling column and some other parts, it has both sizes stacked.

Thanks for the money saving tip!

Just seen your edit, I guess I wold need the adapter that I had to buy to fit the Gitzo leveling base (which I didn't know I needed until the base arrived!)

Gitzo leveling base will fit the Induro 203! I've done it myself.

So here's a $49 short center column that doesn't rival the cost of the tripod itself. It would just add a few inches and call it good. Who doesn't want to add a few inches to go with our big balls? :-P

Markups for country specifiic tariffs in addition to MSRP. Then you also add sales taxes at national and provincial levels, just like state taxes in USA.

Ya it just stinks, you would think between Canada and the US price would not be too far off, not like these are made in the U.S.A :)

The column is good, BUT it does not have the collar. There is a part missing. Look for a used Gitzo 1317 collar on Ebay (none there right now :( )
I got mine for about $35.00

What is the "collar" and why does the tripod need it?

Actually to be even more specific, DON'T buy that Short Column!

What your legs will come with is a 70mm tension adjusted opening into which a flat plate is now installed.

Into that opening you install a 75mm bowl for video heads and other leveling devices, or a crank column or what is called a "Rapid Column"

Look at this picture;

IMAGE: https://photography-on-the.net/forum/images/hostedphotos_lq/2015/12/1/LQ_762797.jpg

THIS IS A LOW QUALITY PREVIEW. Please log in to see the good quality stuff.

This is a rapid column assembly for a series 2 or 3 set of legs. You need the whole assembly. The columns is just the innermost part. That large diameter disk like thing in the middle of the image through which the column goes, is the part that will fit the 70mm opening of your tripod.

The "column" you want to buy is not the whole package. It won't fit into the 70mm hole of your tripod, as it's only about 25mm in diameter. What fits into the 70mm opening of your legs is any of a number of items including the collar that would hold a rapid column like the one you link to. That shorty column is for tripods that already have a collar.

HOWEVER, until you find a rapid column collar, you don't know yet what column diameter to get. You may end up with s series 3 collar, in which case that collar @ B&H might be too narrow to fit.

This also starts to explain some of the big price difference, Compare just a short center column with an entire assembly, and of course they won't be priced at all alike.

Ok cool. Well for all I now I wont need a center column. I'll wait until a few days after Christmas and revisit the issue if needed ;-)a
