Hi All,

As some of you may have seen i'm very excited that i am selling my Canon kit and moving over to Sony Mirrorless. I am getting the A6000 but now i am looking at the range of bundles i can get online.

So far here are the options;

A6k with the 16-70 f/4 Zeiss - £735.00
A6K with 16-50 and 55-210 kit lenses - £530.00
A6K with 18-105G - £535.00
A6K with 16-50 and 18-200LE - £670.00

So far i am leaning toward the one with the Zeiss lens.
I would much prefer better quality glass than a full range of zoom. Am i right in thinking this?

Can't really answer your zoom question as I dont use them but wanted to check where you are basing your prices from? (I'm in uk too). Have you considered the grey market? My a7rii is grey, so was my 5D3 before that. I can also point you to an ebay seller for lenses who I have used numerous times

Edit - here is the ebay seller. I have purchased multiple lenses from them with zero issues (no affiliation)

I even bought a Canon 24-70II from them then changed my mind and was able to return it for a full refund

I'm in Exeter, Devon and the prices were pulled drop a popular online auction site last night. I have total of £800 but I also want to get the tough mount too.

I shoot Motorsport, equine shows (cross country) and now moving into street and model shoots too.

IQ wise, 16-70 and 18-105 are supposed to be very close.

18-105 is a better range for overall photography and it's best after 50 mm. It has strong distortion but it's easily and automatically corrected in software (btw you get Capture 1 for free / Pro for $30 if you're a Sony user, but it will only work with Sony files). 16-70 is more compact and better on the wide end. It also has distortion.

16-50 is a kit lens. I have 18-55 that is supposed to be slightly better and it's just a kit lens. Think Canon 18-55.

55-210 is, again, just a kit lens. It's good in good light and poor in poor light. I like to use it for portraits but I think Canon 55-250 was better.

Based on your use, I think 18-105 would suit the best. Another option would be to get a kit lens and then buy a bunch of old manual glass. It's very cheap and often very good optically. I'd imagine for motorsports you can easily pre focus so the lack of AF is not an issue. This way you could postpone your expensive lens buying decision until you know exactly what you need. Remember that you can also use any FE (full frame) lens directly, or any A-mount Sony lens with an adapter. One of my favorite lenses is an old Minolta Maxxum 35-70/4 Macro zoom, it never disappoints.

If I were you I would get the 16-70 Zeiss. It makes for a compact system. If you set your camera to 12mp then you can zoom to 70*1.5*2.8=294mm all without degradation. But this is all on what you do. Maybe you don't mind the size of the 18-105, but I would stay away from 18-200. One drawback of the 16-70 is that it is not a power zoom. So video zooming isnt as smooth as one might like. But maybe augment that with another lens like the kit. I would also recommend the 35 1.8.

See i'm not sure if i like the idea of power zoom, never used it before and i'm worried for my photography that i won't be able to zoom fast enough.
