Really strange. I'm getting f/8 with 8ft of distance on a Streaklight 360 shooting with both layers of diffusion on the reflector, and then through a white silk shoot through umbrella :/ That's full power, ISO 100.

I'm I the only one to think this is a great light but the bulb design isn't so good? With the bulb off the modeling light is awesome very helpful to find shadows when setting up, with the bulb on it diminishes the effect of the modeling light and adds shadows making the modeling light almost useless. Also, with the XPLOR unit (Bowens mount) at least, the bulb just sits too far in and that results in less light. I have a 30x60 modifier from Paul C Buff that I put a bowens speedring on and at 3-4ft full power I can barely get f/9-f/10 out of it. I wish they made a circular bulb to work better with the modeling light or at least that we could find a spacer like the 360.

The "lock ring" that comes with the extension head seems to be so designed that when it is seated in the Bowens mount, the notches align exactly with the tabs on the extension plug, allowing the plug to pull straight out. Surely the intention of the ring is to prevent the plug from pulling out – in which case the notches would need to be repositioned around the inner circumference of the lock ring.

Or am I missing something here?

Aha. What I was missing was the rotating sleeve on the extension lead plug.

As you were!

I'm having serious issues w/ my A7RII and Xplor 600.

Sony R2 transmitter has latest firmware, Xplor has latest firmware, and I just got the A7RII this week and it arrived from factory w/ latest firmware.

My Xplor is able to sync w/ my R2, meaning when I make setting changes on trigger, it reflects them on the strobe. When I press test button the strobe fires. This is where it gets weird....

When I place the trigger on my hotshoe and actuate the shutter, the strobe will fire if it's set to TTL. However, if the strobe is set to manual it will not fire from a shutter actuation whatsoever. Even though the strobe willl fire from shutter actuation in TTL, there is no light from the strobe present in any photos, whether I'm in HSS or not. Also, I have the beep enabled. When using test button, the strobe will beep for me letting me know its recycled, but when fired from hotshoe, it will not.

I am able to put my old Nikon R2 trigger on my sony and fire the strobe perfectly fine, except in HSS of course. I'm at a loss and after a full day of messing w/ this I'm really frustrated by it. I'm hoping it's just a bad trigger and not the latest sony firmware, one I didnt get to decide on having w/ no ability to roll back, messing it up.

Make sure your A7RII is set to a flash mode other than wireless.
The Godox X system does not work properly with the Sony camera set to wireless flash. That's specific to Sony TTL.
I usually have my cameras set to fill flash. If you want to use a slower shutter speed then slow flash is the option.

Have you tried it the other way, you leave the flash in its wireless mode and set the trigger to manual, that's the way that I have full manual control with Nikon.

Not following you. The flash is set to the mode that allows it to recieve signal from trigger and trigger is set to manual mode/

That is what I read

I only use Manual mode on the strobe when using dumb triggers, when using X1 triggers I use a TTL mode

So I'm not sure what I was doing wrong but I tested my modifiers tonight, all at 6ft from tip of bulb and the 30x60 was showing f/16 double diffused .... (1/200 iso 100) weird that it's way off what I was getting the other day on a shoot. Just for fun I put on the extension and got f/14 so it looks like almost 1/2 stop loss from it.

So what do you do when you're at home sick with 102+ fever? That's right you test all your modifiers on your XPLOR 600!
I tested bare bulb, 7" reflector, snoot, PCB 47 octa, 30x60 softbox and PLM, Mola Euro BD, cheetah RB120, in total 37 different combinations with pictures of light result and meter reading for each!

And before you ask why I'd do a grid with diffusers .... remember high fever can make you do strange things :p

Here is an image from a shoot I did yesterday.
XPLOR600/CL600XET with a medium Buff PLM soft silver.
Normally, I'm not a big fan of open arm pits, but Amber was doing her thing and the results speak for themselves.
Camera was a Fujifilm GFX50s with 32-64 Zoom.
Trigger was an XT1c with the center pin option set to on.
The trigger works a charm. One has to be careful mounting it to the camera. Too far forward and the pin doesn't set on the pad. i.e. no flash.

The light was right over the camera. When the image is at 1:1 my silhouette is apparent in the catch light.

There are more images available but they are in NSFW proof galleries.

Did some testing today due to discussion in a fb group. I tested my xplor 600 and my R2 Lion speedlight to compare power. Both at full power in a 7" reflector (flash zoomed at 200mm) and I get 2 stops more from the xplor. Just thought it was interesting.
