My Just over a yr old 24-70 is locked on "macro" and I can not budge the little switch,,,at least with my finger. Debating if i should try a small screw driver to add more force. anyone else have this happen,,,and or a solution.?

ok update,,,got it to release by pushing forward,,,but when back in lock position,,,it doesn't really lock,,as very little pressure snaps it out of lock,,is this norm?

Yep. Pretty much. The "Lock" isn't very solid, I suspect, because Canon don't want people breaking things by trying to force a locked lens to focus and zoom.
