Feedback appreciated. This is with my new sigma 17-50 lens. It's razor sharp but still learning how to use it at this point.

Looks pretty good.

Tried it wide open yet (f2.8)?

Also...your improvement is noticeable. I has nothing to do with the lens though. Keep at it!

Thanks!

Yes, I tried it out last night and I was wasn't getting as consistent sharpness (due to dof and the moving target) and I was struggling with exposure. I also thought it was a little too shallow. Maybe I'll try again at 2.8 further away.

yep shallow dof is tough especially if your subject won't sit still.

I like it a lot, although I'm not crazy about the facial distortion on the lower end on a close up. There haven't been a lot of opportunities for me to use it so far but I can see it's a significant upgrade for me. I'm really liking the sharpness, lower dof, and a bump in my "keeper" rate. I also just got my light modifiers so I'm excited to use them. One is a 40" umbrella/softbox that came with a diffuser and grid, and the other is an enormous 60" parabolic reflective umbrella :D It'll be interesting to see what the catchlight will look in her eyes. I got those, plus the backdrop holder, 2 backgrounds, light stands, lighting, and some extra goodies thrown in with the lens like a backpack, filter, extra flash with diffuser, and a few minor things. I got all that plus the lens for well under 1k from amazon.

Now I just need a fast long zoom and I'll be all set ;-)a

DH told me he's not getting me anything for my birthday :D

You must have been a very good girl this year. :) Congrats on all the new tools and I'm looking forward to seeing more of your images. Keep shooting, you're doing great.

zoom in to get better perspective.

actually it doesn't matter that you're even zoomed in, it's just the increased camera subject distance that will relieve perspective distortion.
