Looking to have a photo book made. I was looking at Blurb. What others can anyone recommend?

"photo book" of what? I've made two of cars & people with Blurb & one with Shutterfly. All good quality.
But the Wedding guys prefer other vendors.

I'm doing one of a vacation. So don't need any cool features. Just easy interface to create and high quality printing. I was just curious about any experiences other than blurb.

I've made several books through Shutterfly - they have always done a great job.

You have full control over the design process, which you can do from home via their website.

Just did one through Mixbook over the holidays. Pretty happy with the results, the photos look great and seem to be pretty true to their uploaded resolution. I'm not sure if I maybe just missed an option while ordering but I do wish the paper was a bit more glossy.

I did it through them due to the time crunch before the holidays but will be interested to try blurb out on my next book

I have about 30 books from Blurb in various formats. They generally do a good job and when stuff goes wrong they have excellent customer service and things get fixed quickly. I really like their premium matte paper. It gives quite a professional look to photos and prints colour and B&W well. The templates in the Lightroom book module are a little ho hum but I'm pretty much a one photo per page guy. Of minor note they there is no soft proofing in Lightroom for Blurb as they don't provide profiles. I haven't found it to be a big issue as they do a good job of managing the out of gamut stuff. If you are a real sticker you could always proof them with an SRGB profile. I'd definitely recommend giving them a try.

I have used Shutterfly A LOT for vacation books. I just used Adoramapix and was happy with the books however they cost a lot more.

When I wanted a layout that they didn't provide, I made a full page template in PS & assembled the composite on it.

Yeah. I do that for cover layouts but like I said I'm pretty much a one shot per page guy for the interior. The PS text tool is a lot more powerful than what you get in the LR book module too. Way better for covers.

I'm surprised (not disagreeing- just surprised). My best results have been with Adoramapix. The only mistake was page color on one book, and when I looked closely at the order, it was my fault, not theirs. I found their product far better than Shutterfly.

I've had good results using Blurb and AdoramaPix. The Blurb book seemed to be just a bit better in quality, but it was also more expensive. I've also used AdoramaPix for other things like metal prints and I've always been happy with the results. I've seen a few people here who have had problems with them, but I'm sure there are many others like me with zero issues with their service and quality. I've never personally used Shutterfly for photo books, but I've seen books printed by friends there and they're fine, although my Blurb and AdoramaPix books seem a little higher quality. I wasn't comparing them side by side though. If you're just making vacation books and aren't super critical of each little aspect, any of the companies mentioned here will probably do fine.

Blurb can be expensive but rebates come around fairly often. I usually save my books till one arrives. The last batch I ordered were -50% and the batch before -40%. Makes it a tad more attractive.
