Hello guys, I just bought 6D used body with 2k shutter count, the body is like new, but I only have the 50mm 1.8 II lens for this dslr. Since buying it I have HUGE problem with the focus. I use center point as focus point but seems like on every single picture my focus is off. When I focus with Live View the camera focuses really spot on, but when I take the picture the focus is off. I tried the micro adjustment and on +17 I got better results. I am really worried about the AF system of the camera. I have no other EF lens to test or know anyone who has, two days ago I saw a photographer and used his 50mm 1.4 EF lens the results were good but when I use my 50mm the results are really really bad.

I tried with the 60D and the same lens (the camera body I used before the 6D) there are still some problems with the focus from time to time.

Could it be the 6D, but if it was wouldn't the camera not focus at all and the problem be viewable in Live Mode too ?

EDIT:

I just took tests with the 60D with the same lens, the results are almost the same with the 6D doing better.

I had a bad focus problem with the 50 1.8 II, both my other lenses worked fine in my camera.
I used a chart to look at the problem... http://www.photo.net/learn/focustest/scale45.jpg (external link)
It wasn't just bad focus; the image was all warped... https://photography-on-the.net …showthread.php?p=17593964
astrophotos wouldn't align cleanly...
there was this radial blur...
Very happy with the repair results.
So it might be the lens.

If I were to guess blame, a relatively new camera would be less suspect than an inexpensive plastic lens.

Ok so I used the micro adjustment option in the camera now the focus is spot on when I am shooting portraits near me, but when I shoot a subject that's a bit far I lose focus again. (I use f2.2)

I'm no expert, but from everything I've read it seems to point at the lens; several different forums claim that the focus on the 50 1.8 II is hit and miss, and on some copies mostly miss.

Thanks!
Chris

Toss the 1.8 II in the trash , buy the 1.8 STM. It is a million times better.

Or sell it on eBay. Everybody else does!

Did some little testing. The results

50mm 1.8 nifty fifty in a 2-2.5m distance

this is f1.8

This is f2.2

This is 2.5

This is after I microadjust my lens (+14mm)

Now I borrowed 50mm 1.4 Ultrasonic lens

f1.4

f2.2

not micro adjusted just borrowed.

as I can see on this better lens on f1.4 its far better and more focused than on 1.8 on mine nifty fifty.

So I think that if my body was broken or had some fault then even on 2.2 it would miss the focus, wouldn't it?
I think its the lens not the camera, what about you guys, after these samples?

Throw that lens in the bin and buy something decent to do the camera justice...

I will have to sell my 60D in order to do that, or just keep shooting with the 50mm on 2.2-2.5 until I earn enough.

Is Sigma 1.4 ART good lens?

btw I notice that in the RAW files my files are all a bit better focus, maybe the NR on the camera is screwing with me O.o

Do your testimg on a fixed subject. Batteries in a row at 45 degree amgles work. Put the camera on a tripod amd tske a series of shots at the various increments

I'm struggling to understand..... You say you have a focus problem but the raw files have better focus?? Noise reduction will have no effect on focus.
Why don't you just go into a shop and try another lens and see what results you get..

I did that test and adjusted my lens +14 and from 1.8 to upper f stop the focus is accurate on all pictures maybe not on 1 or two, I struggle when my subject is far to get a sharp photo.

I did the 45 degrees test but on this sheet of paper.
