This is a jaguar who goes by the name of Mick Jaguar. Mick became super famous in 2013 when a video of him swimming across a channel, catching and killing a yacare caiman. Another video of him leaping off of the river bank into the water was posted in 2015 and went equally viral. Mick lives in the Pantanal (Brazil). The Pantanal is the largest tropical freshwater area in the world. Measuring 75,000 sq. miles, multiple ecosystems are found here, including the jaguar.

I was lucky enough to find Mick out hunting one day and got the treat of my life.

I hope you enjoy this sequence.

Mick, also known to some people as pirate because he is missing one eye from a fight with another jaguar. He is one of the largest jaguars in the area, but he is becoming older. Just like anything in nature, only the strong survive.

One day Mick will take his last breath, but Mick, unknowingly has brought Jaguar awareness to millions and millions of people thru the videos and photos that have been posted online.

Mick was walking a long distance along the bank, hunting for something to eat, either a capybara or a caiman, and something has caught his one remaining eye.

This area has unlimited food source for the jaguars that live here. These jaguars that inhabit the pantanal are the largest in the world. They are 3x bigger than other jaguars throughout South, Central and North America. For reference they can get as big as a female lion.

Mick decided to descend into the river, stalking stealthily thru the water.

Back up on the bank, Mick spots something, and begins to leap into the water.

IMAGE: http://www.holzphotoclient.com/Gear/5ds/i-WVfb99D/1/L/mick0005-L.jpg

Under the water Mick Jaguar goes, what Mick has…no one knows….

IMAGE: http://www.holzphotoclient.com/Gear/5ds/i-LTHD7SM/1/L/mick0006-L.jpg

Mick emerges with a five foot yacare caiman fighting for it’s life!

IMAGE: http://www.holzphotoclient.com/Gear/5ds/i-D6LzjLS/1/L/mick0007-L.jpg

The five foot caiman thrashing around, trying to escape, hoping for one last chance of survival.

One last attempt of escape for the caiman….

IMAGE: http://www.holzphotoclient.com/Gear/5ds/i-m4d93xj/1/L/mick0009-L.jpg

Life is ending quickly for the caiman. Mick’s bite, along with his dagger like teeth have penetrated thru the caiman’s armor plated scales on its neck. Mick's teeth pierce thru the caiman's armor and rip thru it's spinal cord.

The caiman has become paralyzed. The only thing left is for Mick, to drag the caiman onto land and into the bushes where he can quickly eat his meal, before another jaguar shows up to challenge him for it.

This is an excellent series! A little luck never hurts & it's lucky that you saw Mick before he saw you, too!

What an experience and what N awesome series of shots. Made me wonder what Mick might have decided had he seen Big Country before seeing the caiman.
