She thought it was "just ok"... :-P

6D + Sigma 50mm f/1.4 Art. Shot at 1/25, f/2, ISO 200
cropped for composition

I'm not much of a whiz with PP and there were multiple light sources so I did what little I could (the middle of her face managed to be in a shadow of sorts so I just lightened it) and just decided to keep the "feel" of the atmosphere when it came to lighting instead of trying to make it all flawless and consistent. I have the feeling that anyone who has been on a Merry Go 'Round before will instantly KNOW the color of those bulbs.

Obviously this was a panning shot. I used Back Button Focusing, AI Servo, and a continuous frame rate (burst) and this was the best of the bunch.

Thanks for looking and any feedback :-)

On the first image, you certainly have a wonderful subject at hand! I would have certainly gone with a much higher ISO, maybe 800 or even 1600 and possibly F/2,8 to capture a sharp image of the girls face. 1/25 shutter speed is tough on a 50mm lens, even standing still. I like the colors just fine. And the blur of the rotations is a nice element too. I doubt she would mind going for another round or two to allow a second shot. Merry Go Rounds are great!

The second image is quite unique! I love that composition and the subjects. :)

Interesting you mentioned back button focus as I just switched to it last weekend after reading another article about it. I had missed or forgotten the fact that it allows an instant switch from Tracking to Single Shot, I only perceived it as locking focus and allowing the shutter button to be shutter only. Not realizing the focus mode switching is the real advantage. It will be a real benefit once I get used to it.

Thanks for the suggestions!

Regarding the sharpness of her face, it's fairly sharp. Here's a 100% crop.

Is it TACK sharp? No. But for a moving subject at 1/2 the focal length, it's pretty decent, IMO. It's a tad noisy at 100% because as I mentioned previously, I raised the exposure on her face because it was in a bit of a "shadow" from the lights to her left, and the ambient light from the sky to her right.

Also, had I raised the shutter speed, I don't think I would have gotten the dramatic motion blur that I achieved.

And thanks for the kudos on the second image. I stick almost exclusively to family portraits, but this shot was so intuitive that I just had to take it.

BBF has been AWESOME for me the last few years. I'm sure you'll enjoy it as well. It took me about 3-4 weeks to get used to it. To aid the process, I just lounged around the house taking pictures of anything, everything, and everyone :-)

Wait... were you talking about her face, or Grandma's face? lol... just re-read your post and realized it could have been either, I suppose.
