Got a new Sigma 70-200 /2.8 this morning and set about testing it. It seemed to be fron focusing and so, of course, I alarmed many here in the forum. So, in round two, I used both the 1dN and my 20D, results here: https://photography-on-the.net …hp?p=1257921&postcount=21

Does it seem the camera is front focusing? This would not make for a good finding...:(

Follow-up: did another test between 20D and 1DN using EF50/1.4...each image focused on the "C" in "Ice":

20D:

1DMkIIN:

And here's one from yesterday when I thought there might be an issue:

Ok...even though there's been no feedback, I will update on further testing. Every test I have done...straight on, angled, flash, 24-70, 70-200, 85, 50 mm lenses...it has a definite front focus issue. I am bummed...:(

On the other hand, my 20D whipped this pup's butt...good for it!

You need to do these tests in much better light and focus on a contrasty subject/object. That tricycle is not a proper test unless the seat was white. Remember AF is NOT perfect. Test MF too.

I hear you...I've done over 100 shots today in all manner of light with all manner of targets...consistently resulting in front oriented focus while in AF. MF results seem fine...thanks for reminding me.

Yes, I know it's not perfect, but, I don't shoot in VERY well lit areas all the time with constantly contrasty subjects...respectfully, and I mean it. :) Also, for $4K, the darn thing ought to be giving me a kiss while I am shooting...at least for the first week!

Here's another test image:

Then call Canon. It may need calibrating.

Again, I really do appreciate your opinion, as well as other feedback I get. Maybe I am just old-fashioned in my almost 43 years of age, but geez, anymore you pay top dollar for something and get stuff that needs to go right back to the factory. It's like you pay 100% for something but only get 90% or less of what you paid for. I know I am not the only one who ever got bad stuff, but it really frustrates me to no end.

Ok, this venting was brought to you by Canon!

Sorry Scott that would bum me out alot as well. I just happened to read this http://www.outbackphoto.com …hnique/essay06/essay.html (external link) today and your shot of the tricycle made me think of it. Looks like you've done more tests than that though.

If I could wave my magic focus wand to fix it I would. Sorry. The photos you show here in your tests are not under proper light IMO and the subjects are too similar. Only Canon can fix this.

No kidding as I have to agree with paying top $$$ for a product you'd think the QC would be a little better expected but we all know stuff happens in any aspect of human or even technological intervention.
