Computer Desk Speakers

I know its a bit off topic, but I am just finishing up building a new desk at home, I have always just used the laptop speakers, but now due to where the laptop is mounted the speakers don't work so well. So I am looking for some advise on speakers. They will be used for Youtube videos, and some music while editing so nothing special. I would like them to have a headphone jack that I can plug into when the wife does not want to listen to what ever I am watching.

Budget, well honestly the best quality for the least amount of money. If I can keep it under $30 that would be amazing but I honestly have no idea what I should be spending on speakers. I do know my father in law would say a couple hundred minimum is required for speakers

I bought the JBL's. Work great in a room roughly 10 x 14 x 8 foot high. Headphones plug into my laptop and automatically cut out the speakers.

I'm with your father-in-law (my computer speakers ran $850 pre-experienced!)

$25 at your local Best Buy! Good ratings. I listened to them in the store - very good for the price.

They also include a 2nd input for your phone or whatever, and a headphone jack.

Edifier make good computer speakers. Audioengine make great computer speakers.

People will watch crappy images much more than they will listen to crappy audio. Generally, you need better monitor/speakers for editing than they will have for playback.

My latest are a pair of "Creative Gigaworks T20 Series II"
Very nice - there are cheaper and more expensive in the series

Got my AudioEngine 2's a few years ago. They work well.

I finally got sick of crappy 'PC' speakers, and went with 'nearfield monitor' speakers. Rokit 5's. These are self-amplified, and sound fantastic. B&H has a great selection for window shopping...

These look really nice, but even the Rokit 4's are way to big for me for desktop PC speakers. The AudioEngine 2's that Tim mentioned (6" x 4" x 5.25") are a bit bigger than I'd like but take up less than one sixth the space (volume-wise) of the Rokit 5's (9.7" x 7.4" x 11.2").

Both the AudioEngines and the KRK's are way above what the OP was looking for price-wise. However I'm glad you guys brought them up as I'm also in the hunt to replace what I have on my desk. I'm looking for the best available in a small package (and no subwoofer) for under $350 Cdn for the pair. OTOH I wonder if I should just get one of these to stream music from my PC to my Marantz integrated amplifier:

Save a few more coins and go for the Bose Companion speakers.
Great sound! check them out at your local warehouse or Bose store.

I have always been happy with Creative Labs speakers for PCs, they have subwoofers and multichannel versions availalble, like the Inspire T6300 which you can get thru the Creative store http://us.creative.com​/estore/ or Amazon for only $70 for the set.

Thank you everyone for all your input, my wife picked me up some speakers for Christmas, nothing fancy but they go great with the desk decor. The nice thing is if I need any real good sound I just play it through my surround sound system that's 20' away from my desk.

I have a pair of Nuforce S3 BTs that sound absolutely incredible. Powered, and can run via BT or line-in. The BT controller sucks, and fails really quickly, and is the cause of all of the negative reviews about the product, but plugged into the line-out/headphone jack, I haven't seen or heard anything better for the money.

I absolutely love mine- would only get rid of them if I got a great deal on a pair of Tannoy studio monitors.
