"hot" generally means overexposed. Of course, it's definitely a matter of opinion! I think with a slight decrease in exposure/brightness (which is obviously EASILY accomplished with any software program) it would be MUCH better. Your sons forehead is, again - in my opinion, too bright and as such, it becomes a focal point rather than his ADORABLE face and expression. LOVE that moment! I can just see almost any little boy pulling that face for a shot!

Also, again - another PERSONAL opinion, I think the image would actually be enhanced by adding a vignette. If you added "lens corrections" in post, try simply removing the vignette correction and see if that does anything for you. If you like it, and your program supports it, try adding a little more. I use Lightroom and typically I leave lens corrections off and then add somewhere in the neighborhood of -30 of post-crop vignetting. For portraits and shots of people, I find it helps to reduce distractions on the periphery of the image and just by the nature of light vs dark, it centers the viewers eye on the subject of the photograph. Even if you have the best portrait shot ever, keeping the viewers eye on the subject longer is a good thing

Here's an example of how I personally would have processed the image beyond your processing. If you'd like me to delete the image, it's no problem at all.

I like the 2nd version better. Amazing what a little PP can do to a photo.

Thanks Jonathan, I like what you've done. I did see the misfocus, but I liked the expression enough to disregard the blurriness. Usually I would an image like this straight to the recycle bin.
