I notice a lot of people on the site use Costco. Do they seem to be the best retail option for prints? What online services are good? I was looking at using AdoramaPix for a photo book for a friends wedding

I think Adoramapix does a great job. Their albums are less expensive than WHCC and Artsy Couture, but have very thick pages and are printed on photo paper.

Adoramapix is also good with prints, but I like White House Custom Color the best. Their turn-around is really fast, especially if you live in the midwest.

For canvases I like Artsy Couture and CG Pro Graphics. CG pro graphics has insanely low prices for the quality.

I should have been more specific about Adoramapix books. I have ordered their basic photobooks. They also sell a more premium line called Hudson Albums, but I have only printed the photobooks and they are excellent.

I use Whitewall (external link) for some of my high end printing needs, they are an international lab, and have an operation in the US as well now. They are very good for high quality printing for wall hanging. About the only service they do not offer is books.

I use Walmart. Cheap. Walmart will reprint until I like the results. No extra charge. I've probably had at least 500 prints done there in the last year. Maybe 2 had to be redone.

Several years ago I did a test with them & printed the same image twice. Only an hour later the 2nd print was a different CB & contrast.

I don't think we can say that X is great & Y is not. They all use pretty much the same $500,000 printers & the difference is the training of the people running them.
I've had great prints come from Costco over the years. One POTN member in Canada did not. I renewed my membership for years just because the prints were better/faster/cheaper than my local pro lab that I used for decades. I could do a 4X6" 'proof' print & the $3 12X18" print would look exactly like the proof.
I've read that the 'by mail' prints aren't done by Costco, but haven't tried that because my store was only 5 miles away.
My local Meijers store has done a great job for the last year.

The thing we need to do is keep them honest by including a standard print with the order to eliminate the variables in what we see on our system & what they print. See the printable PDI_Target_AdobeRGB.jpg & sRGB test images for a standard to start with in:
