??How do I send images through the internet vie e-mail??

So just like the title states this is what I can not do.. I have photo that I took of Baptisms at church and I can not get them to send through Outlook..

What am I doing wrong? Is there a service that I can use or what??

Heya,

Depends on your service that you're using for email. Some restrict file size limits. If you attach a bunch of full size several Mb JPG's, it may be larger than the limit.

What service does your Outlook connect via?

Not sure what you are doing, and therefore don't know what is wrong.

Maybe Outlook does not allow baptism pics.

I convert my pics to JPG and shrink them down to about 100 to 500 kb and they send without problems.

I am leaving them at the full size and outlook is rejecting the email.

they are full res raw files that were done in lightroom than converted to Jpg.


So I should just shrink them is the thing I guess.. So than my question is how much could I shrink them and still get a nice image if they wanted to print them..

The size of the file depends on the pixel dimensions and the compression. If they are just for viewing on a monitor, then keep the dimensions at or below the pixels of most monitors - like max 1900 wide or thereabouts. And try reducing the quality of the JPG a fair bit without a noticeable change in appearance.

Then they should email easily as long as you don't send too many at once.

If they are for printing, that's different.

They're bigger than your mail provider (or maybe the recipient's mail provider, depending on the error message you get) allows. You can either resize them to be smaller than (typically) 5 MB (not megapixels, megabytes), you could use a service like DropBox, OneDrive or Amazon Cloud Services (to name a few), or you could upload the images to Flickr, Picasa, or some other photo-sharing service and let people download them from there.

Whatever the size limit is of your email service. It's not Outlook, that's just an interface. Your actual service determines what the email's attached file size limit is. So again, what is your service? That will answer your question of file size restriction, and that will tell you how large a file can be.

Odds are, if you don't want to lose any quality, send 2~3 full size JPG's per email and just send several emails. Why compromise quality? You can just send more emails. Surely your service can withstand a 10Mb of attachment.

If this isn't an option, explore a service like Drop Box.

Looks like Outlook's limit is 20mb. The ISP might also impose a limit.

I don't see the point in sending pics with resolution that is greater than the monitor that will be used.

He mentioned he'd like to retain resolution for print capability for those that are receiving.

I agree that if it's just for digital viewing, a resolution to match typical digital viewing devices would be totally fine and save tons of space.

ISP's do pose limits. Not as bad as they used to be. But still there. That info will be on his ISP's agreement/site/etc.

Sure, that would work. JPGs reduced to 1900 wide would still be good for prints less than 8 x 10", and would be an advantage if the OP needs to email a bunch of pics.

Someone mentioned dropbox, another solution is Google Drive. Ive sent entire 720p movies over that before.

You never mentioned the size of the image you are trying toa send. Also, when you say you're using Outlook, do you Outlook.com or Outlook the frontend software.

This may or may not be relevant, but there are two ways that Outlook can send images. One way is to send them as attached files, and the other is to send them as embedded images. The latter allows you to see the images directly in the email, provided you select the proper email format. If you send basic text, you can't embed an image. Try using HTML or Rich Text format to see embedded images in your email.
