(I realize there is a "Business of Photography" forum but I wanted to hear specifically from wedding photographers)

Do you run it as a proprietorship for simplicity? Or an LLC for some liability protection? Those seem to be the top two choices I'm facing but it seems as though some insurance is warranted even if I form an LLC.

Being an LLC protects your personal property and monies from legal issues.

Ole proprietor means if you got sued, and they win, they can take everything.

You need insurance regardless, some venues wont let you work in their facility without it.

Besides, do you want uncle bob sueing you when he knocks a lightstand on his head... Or if little flower girl topples your tripod over and breaks $5,000 in gear?

LLC here. I use to be a sole proprietor until I heard a lawyer talk about the consequences if something were to happen.

I took advice from a suitably qualified professional in the country I live in. I assume from your lack of disclosure that you live in the USA - if so you might want to edit your title to mention that. Every country is different.
