I am going to a Dallas Stars game next week and would like to take my 7DII along with my 70-200 f/2.8.

Here is the official policy from the Dallas Stars website:

Non-flash, still photography for non-professional use is allowed within the arena as long as it does not interfere with aisles or other guest¹s enjoyment of the game. Unauthorized video or audio recording is strictly prohibited. Video cameras are not allowed inside American Airlines Center.

Do you think I will have an issue?

Thanks

Tim

With a 70-200 you may well. Many such locations base their assessment of professional/hobby status on the length of your lens. I think your best bet would be to phone the venue and explain that you are a hobbyist but have a nice camera/lens and do they have specific lens length limits.

To me that sounds like a photography friendly policy. A lot of MLB facilities are similar and you can bring in just about anything you want.

The key phrases from places that will be a hassle are typically "No professional cameras allowed" or "no cameras with lenses longer than 6" allowed".

I've seen a Canon 70-200mm f/2.8 lens several times at Washington Capitals' games. Maybe the NHL is more camera-friendly than other sports.

You'll be OK in Dallas. Was there last year with a 100-400. The NHL does not create these rules. They are venue specific. There are some really weird ones out there too. Some prohibit lenses longer than 6 inches (??), some longer than 80mm and others any camera with a detachable lens. Enjoy the game!

Most NHL arenas don't allow "professional cameras" that I have seen or been too. Like others have said it's usually the lens can't be longer than 4-6 inches.
