but it seems like I'm off. It's my son's gift from me last xmas set up with one speedlight (camera right) and white styro as reflector (camera left).
Been trying to reveal its full black color but had difficulty.

I find a grey card helps me. Plus you might need to do photo stacking like they do in macro if you want it entirely in focus.

Go to your dropbox account ONLINE. Select (don't click) the file. Select [SHARE] at the right of the filename. That will bring up a link you can post to allow others access to the file.

I messed with it for a minute. I can't seem to make much progress with the black/blacks. There are some pretty deep shadows on the piece itself.

I think a tripod, f/11-16, and hyperfocal distance would fix your OOF problem, though.

Just read my own post. HFD comment makes no sense. What I meant was to situate you focal point such that as much of the subject as possible is in sharp focus. HFD would be so far away you couldn't tell what the subject is. I need coffee.
