Thanks. My wife and I were en route to New Zealand, but we stopped off for two days in Singapore to meet up with a friend who took us to a few easily accessible birding spots. It was a bit rushed, due to trying to cram in as much as possible in the little time available, but tremendous fun. The Singapore bird list is quite extensive and there must be great opportunities there for anyone with the time to explore fully. Also many of the birds are very tolerant. For example, this Yellow Bittern was right next to some open-air tables where we were having breakfast. In Britain you wouldn't get within yards of any heron without a hide/blind.

Yes sir I know the 'blind' situation. The recent hawk shots Mark is putting up I think of every time I get in the blind :)
When I visited NZ we did a 48 hour stint in Fiji to break it up.....long flights :)

The Grey Jay is very happy to... They have skills to deal with cold weather. They lay their eggs in the snow every year, they do not migrate to the south for the warmth much like myself lol. They kinda fit with another post here about stashing food and remembering just where. You see they cover food with there own saliva to preserve it and hid it through the fall so they have food for the winter and to raise their young. So they have very good memory's.

Their young are about this size right now. I know this because there is a research group that what I call interferes with a group of Grey Jays in the name of research. I'm not a fan as you can tell.

I wish they wouldn't perch on the power lines, but they were migrating and all lined up waiting to move on.

If you ever should have plans for a trip to Extremadura, then I can recommend some breeding areas for this specie and cheap accommodation nearby as well....;o))

the name of the thread is BEST...and while I am new to this...I think this is the best I have yet...combination of being able to get close, and timing meant for me capturing something unique...Great Egret fighting with lunch...that happens to be a snake that doesn't want to be lunch. I was really surprised at the defense mechanism of wrapping around the beak...it really worked...for a while.

Beautiful and Very well captured.

Thnk Robert. That was taken in December in Wellington. 7Dii plus 300 2.8, no TC. ISO 1600, pushing that crop body a bit.....there were three of them, I cut one out of that image above to do the close-up.

Here's another from the same encounter.

Excellent photo..., I just love images with a kind of "action" and not very often we see drinking birds...
