On the warbler's name
why not yellow rumped yellow chested white neck warbler?

Glad to be back. From freezer (we had two blizzards while there) to the frying pan (will be 91F today here).

So a mystery warbler type that Shooz didn't teach me at McGee Marsh. I'd appreciate a clue. Shot 12 days ago on a cold

Yeah man, this thread suddenly started going a mile a minute a few months back. You can miss a day, and there's 3-4 new pages. Tough to keep up sometimes!

And as others confirmed: Yellow-rump Warbler. These guys actually winter in my area, but aren't as colorful then. Seems they join the rest of Warbler-dom and head north during the Spring, as I haven't seen any for a few weeks

Tried using my 5D MkII for birds and noticed the distinct lack of reach.

Jan / Feb on Amherst is Snowy Owl time ! I think they are building a wind farm on Amherst so be warned.
Wolfe Island is great for Snowys....it is also a ferry ride across from Kingston. I prefer Wolfe to Amherst.

BTW, they do a gear check on the ferry over to Amherst and Wolfe....there is an extra fee if you do not shoot Canon

This is a Yellow-rumped Warbler. There are two varieties, one being the Myrtle and the other is an Audubon’s. This bird is the Myrtle variety.

Regarding Noise. The sensor noise on my 5Dsr is like the 7dMk2 and I have a battle with it almost every time Im in post.

As Pondrader says...the Brush is your friend. And its very much my friend especially in low detail areas around the bird where ISO noise really shows. Conversely the high detail areas of a higher ISO shot such as the bird itself are never really a problem for me as that noise tends to get lost in amongst the high detail thats there.

And its the low detail areas showing noise where selective NR by a Lightroom brush can come in really handy. Just set the brush to a reasonably low NR to start with and paint the low detail areas where the noise is showing and you will see a marked improvement that was simple and quick. Thats assuming the brush tool has been applied correctly and evenly it will do a great job of getting rid of some of the noise . Having said that you do need to be careful not to use too many brushes on the same image as then Lightroom will take a big hit in its speed especially if the brushes are doing selective NR and/or sharpening . So as long as you keep the use of selective Sharpening or NR brushes per image reasonably low ( 2 or 3 NR or sharpening Brushes per image max ) they will certainly help you minimise noise in an image as it does for me.

BTW Almost every shot I post has at least one NR brush happening somewhere on my image and mainly due to the fact I shoot handheld and I am always having to use hi ISO( 1200+) to get my shutter speeds up in most of my shots. And thats because my sensor like the 7DMk2 shows/amplifies every little bit of camera shake etc if I crop in heavily like most people do with bird shots. So I get the shot sharper by going higher in shutter speed via increased ISO but then I have the noise issue to deal with . But Noise Im ok with because I can do something about it in Lightroom via the brush tools whereas if it was a soft shot there would be little I could do about that and more than likely the image then becomes unuseable.
