Beautiful bird. Do they flash the tail feathers. Looks a lot of plumage to just drag about and not show off.

Thanks. These black hanging feathers are feathers of the wings.

Oh! My bird knowledge is limited to 'that's a beautiful bird' in most cases. Thanks

Wonderful shot with perfect timing, and a great title.

These are both really nice shots, Lee. The hawk is definitely starring down his nose at you. He may be a little put out with you, interrupting his quiet time.

I should have put it in the original post, but I believe that is a juvi Bald Eagle and you're right - he doesn't seem happy to see me. :-)

Going through old images and came across this photo of a Cackling Goose along side of a Canada Goose. Thought some here might find it interesting to see the size difference. Besides the smaller size, it's fairly easy to see the Cackling has a shorter bill, different head shape, shorter neck and a white collar at the base of the neck

Until 2004, the Cackling Goose was considered one species: Branta canadensis. Now, due mainly to genetic differences, the Cackling Goose is formally on its own, with four regional subspecies under its wing.
