Oct 09, 2018 21:37 | #26812 Went to the NC Zoo today to try and get a few exotic species (My wife asks,"Why are you always photographing birds? Branch out a little!") and I had a great day until right at the end when I noticed my Canon 100-400mm mk2 was rotating freely in its tripod collar. I checked the thumbscrew and it was tight. I loosened it and re-tightened to no avail. Imagine my surprise to find the tripod collar had cracked across it's width near the foot! The lens is less than a year old and under warranty. I've never tightened the collar beyond finger tight. The best I can figure is that the collar had a hairline crack prior to painting that got missed by QC. Needless to say I will be without my favorite birding lens for awhile Image hosted by forum (937392) © Pax2You [SHARE LINK] THIS IS A LOW QUALITY PREVIEW. Please log in to see the good quality stuff. Might sound a bit Lame , but these are seriously good shots of a different perspective on bird life. Light, life and action are three lovely attributes of your photography. As for this Coot, I find that very interesting. Never experience such in life. The dark colours are often somberously merged. Black birds on dark backgrounds don't make easy capture, from my experience. But not this one. The water lights up, the leg and reflections are highlights. Beautiful and informative. Thank you so much, Richard! I really appreciate your thoughtful comments and compliments. Facebook
