I counted 17 Grey Herons today all lined up on a channel bank and all waiting for their lunch. It's the most I have ever seen in one place. They were watching a digger on the other side of the bank dredging. On the Somerset levels the reason for the dredging is to widen the channels so the water flows easier and more efficiently as the levels are prone to flooding. The digging brings up eels and frogs and other amphibians that the herons like to eat.

I took this photo at f/16 to get a very deep depth of field hoping that the eyes of the 3 birds in front would all be in focus.

Starlings look black at a distance but when seen closer they are very glossy with a sheen of purples and greens. To me they are a very beautiful bird

I saw this scissortail perched on a post on the side of the road on my way back from lunch today. I was able to make a u-turn & go back & shoot from the other side of the road with cars whizzing between him & I.

Really nice shot. Many of us don't realize just how pretty starlings are until they are seen up close.

LD, or Mike
Often mistaken, but never in doubt.
