Really like the second shot Lee, good work.

Very nice, the perch and the pose and the color. What a tail! Sent me to my Sibley with this bird, I have never seen one. A California Towhee, amiright?

Very nice photo, Graham, and an attractive-looking bird, although, having just read that it uses delightful Fairy Wrens for hosts, I'm a bit ambivalent about that.

Yeah Trik, that's the problem with all our smaller cuckoos....attractive looking birds but exhibit 'questionable' ethics!

Primo shot, Graham. The green in the wing is really petty, and I like the birds pose.

My new 600 F4 came in last Friday, so I sat out back for a bit Saturday to see if subject would humor me. After about 45 minutes of shooting leaves & flowers blowing in the wind, a group pf sparrows flew into one of the trees but for whatever reason they wanted to stay fairly deep in the tree. It was overcast and not very bright out, but the single point AF locked right on. :)

Long story short, they became my first bird photos with the new lens. When I went to process the images, I discovered the were jpgs rather than RAW for some reason (must changed that unknowingly..??..). So... what I ended up with were these - SooC JPGs.
