Posting this here as I don't do much on other threads and it may serve as a warning to some who's eyes aren't up to scratch.

Yes, I'm one of them that once he has his perfect jpg, bins his RAWs

I've been checking over my images on flickr.............hence those also posted here and onM43. Many of them are (way) over-sharpened which I never realised prior to having cataract surgery. Some of them look like shlt with what would have been minimal noise now emphasised  Surprisingly, some have sold. They'll look even worse after I have my right eye done on Monday!:frown:

If I'd have kept the RAWs, I wouldn't be wishing that I could step back in time 12months :crying:

Lesson learned.............now to cull or not seeing as some have been faved?

If you click on the url for this image and zoom in at flckr you'll see just how badly processed they are although it can be seen here also

No Time Machine or similar back-up to recover them from?

Still waiting for the wisdom they promised would be worth getting old for.

I didn't think the image was bad at all. Do you sharpen in Photoshop?

Yes.

Well, to be brutally frank, I do find it rather too sharp for my taste, but, then, I do not like effects like HD, for example. Having said that, it is definitely worth keeping, so why don't you soften it very slightly and see how you like it then? But "save as" with another name, in case you change your mind later, or work on a copy. Although the files are larger than JPGs, you might want to consider converting Raw shots to TIFFs in future, as you can work on them and save as often as you wish without loss of image quality.

Good luck on Monday. Hope it goes as well as the first op.

Thanks. Managed to get rid of the noise/artifacts in background with noise reductiion. The white line under the branch is annoying though. I'm surprised that the bird stayed sharp. Probably an indicator of just how much over-sharped it was

The white halo in your shot isn't very obtrusive, especially as one's eyes are drawn to the bird, but I have been known to clone them out sometimes. It can be tedious, though. Otherwise, if it really bothers you and you don't want to go to that trouble, I would hope that Photoshop has a blend or soften tool, so maybe a small brush on a low setting and run it along the very edge of the branch?
