It's just a cross section and it's all algorithms and has nothing to do with quality of the image, as a quick glance at the Explore pages show. I've had a number of my so-so images selected and my best images ignored. The one nice thing one can say about flickr Explore is that an image gets a lot of views, likes and comments. I find it a nuisance as often Explore means people spamming the comments with group banners and flickering gifs which I then have to remove as I loath them. Wild Birds of Europe
