=Cap'n Fishy;18778247]Your one-eyed nuthatch put me in mind of a local bird, and how they manage to cope with their disabilities and survive. There is a carrion crow with
avian keratin disorder
(crossbill syndrome) that lives around a local graveyard. It's near the cycle path I walk along and I notice food put out by users, I am sure for this bird, though many others feed on it. I have started taking suet pellets to give to it, too. I try to feed it directly. I've watched him feeding, and he takes many attempts to get a single piece of food in, lying his head on the ground and clawing away at it, time and time again, before finally he gets it in. But the thing is.. he is still there and surviving. A great role model for us all!

It's a great shame that wild birds can die of stress or shock if manhandled, as maybe its beak could be clipped by a vet. It doesn't look in good condition, but, as you say, it's surviving through the good offices of yourself and others.
