Really nice shots, especially the GBH, but the mockingbird shot is uniquely cool, considering his perch.

Thank you so much! The perch is what made that shot stand out to me... well that and the way it was looking back over it's shoulder at me showing it's full back.

Envious of the Mockingbird. We used to see them all the time but it has been months.

They are everywhere here... I seldom photograph them because they are so common but just loved the pose and perch there.

Both are really sharp, May I ask what version of 1.4 did you use on the first image? I have the Mark II and I have not really played this combo but I wonder if it is worth it to upgrade to 1.4x Mark III.

Thanks
Peter

I've got the 1.4EXIII(never had a II so can't compare) but what I've read it's not that it's sharper but you get faster AF with the new big tele's and the 100-400II and the newer body's(5D and 1D class). I did have to MFA the combo, single lens just 1 or 2 units but I believe the combo to be 7 or 8.

Thanks for the info, I appreciate it :), I have yet to really played with the bare lens and with 1.4x it’s been raining here in Seattle. Have a great day. I played with the 1.4x Mark II with my 7D Mark II Indoor and yet it slow to AF but it is still sharp. Can’t wait to try it outside.

Two for the price of one here - a bird portrait and a BIF. Decided to post it on this thread, as the grebe (bird portrait) is prettier than the gull (BIF) :-)

Super shot, shame about the twig cutting through it's tail, but that's nature I guess.

Thanks for the feedback. These Cardinals tend to spook easily and when I saw it perched so nicely with such great sun on it I was afraid to move about too much for fear it would take off. I took what I could get but I am always trying to improve so I greatly appreciate your viewing and commenting. :-)
