Am Goldfinch (again) They will be gone around the end of January. A flush in the yard revealed probably +100 yesterday. Unreal numbers this year.

Well captured, Mike. Looks like you shot in some overcast lighting, but you captured some good color. The light/shadow under the wings is nice, I'm liking the puffy character of that plumage.

Shooting on the beach is so much fun, you just never know what treasures of the sea you (or the birds) are going to turn up. Also, in my relatively short time photographing birds, no other setting has come close to matching the kind of light you get during a sunrise at the beach.

Perfect Goldfinch shot, Will! Tough little bird to capture well, in my experience. You can sort of see the trademark yellow up near the head/bill; are they still in your area once they start putting on the striking trademark yellow?

We have some AGF up here for the winter as well, though they're sparse. Seems to be a very wide ranging bird.

I know, I know... I've said it before. But I simply can't resist a robin.

Thanks, Matthew. No, I don't get to see them in breeding plumage, unfortunately. I had 100+ around my yard yesterday.

More snow birds

A flock of 31 Rusty Blackbirds came into the yard, and each time I was sitting in the blind with the camera AND they used the photo branches...such luck!
