Unusual bird to find walking along a country lane in Somerset(UK) 1 mile from any house. Must be an escaped pet.

Cattle egrets are visiting the UK in increasing numbers. They often spend time close to livestock and grab insects and worms which their hooves disturb. Last year it was in the news that cattle egrets have bred successfully in the Avalon Marshes for only the second time ever in the UK. There have been five nests of cattle egrets on site, producing 11 youngsters.

Male Superb Fairy Wren ~ Juvenile
They look quaint with their dabs of colour, like platelets of blue daubs smattered about the head

Osprey are very uncommon in my home state, so uncommon they are officially listed as 'not present'.

But no-one has told this fine lady who has come back to the same spot for the third time in four years - 2016 and 2017, and now 2019.

She is mid way through another fish from the river, and her crop is about as big as the crop i needed as she was so far away - but I was just happy to see her again and any picture was a bonus.

Yesterday was a great day. This fellow was in our yard. I have seen them and heard them but always usually late at night. I happened to look out the door at our pond and I see the owl on the ground. Looked like it was eating a small bird. I grabbed the camera and slowly managed to get out on the deck. It seemed to completely swallowed the bird. As I raised the camera it flew but to my surprise it flew closer to me on a perch I have at the bird feeders. I took a few shots and (it stayed their for a good 10 minutes) then it flew to another tree not far from the perch it was on but in a different spot. Tough for pictures there. Then later my wife and I had to go out about a half hour later and there it is again in our yard. It was fun having such great views of the owl. The lightning was very gray with clouds and time of day but I will take it.

Thanks Rob, and a great story of your own with the barred owl in your yard too!
