Why do you ask Pag, am I messing up that badly?

Not at all, I was wondering from a general rule for our nikon cameras - what is the better settings for focus as there are a few different oppinions about it.
So just wondered how you have your nikons set up?

Wishing you a safe and photographically fantastic trip Rob.
I'd really like to see a gear loud-out list for your trip. Of all the posters
here who literally could take anything and everything it is you and the Mrs.

Thanks for the well wishes.

I am taking

(Well if the new 600mm was here, I would take that and the 400mm DO II)

Canon 400mm Mk III plus 1.4x and 2x extenders
2 1dx Mark II bodies
100mm Macro lens
Tripod and Really Right Stuff fluid head
extension tubes
52mm drop in polarizer
52mm drop in 6 stop nd (for video)
Plus all the misc, batteries, cards, chargers etc
Flashlights
Ipad
My custom designed vest to carry my tripod (Love that thing)
I use the carry on pelican and the GG Chobe as my bags to carry on
Canon 70-200mm f 2.8 v III also

The Mrs

400mm DO II plus extenders
I think the 70-200mm f2.8
1dx Mark II
tripod and Sacthler video head
Black Rapid strap
Misc stuff, cards, batteries and chargers etc
All in a Lowpro bag with roller as carry on

I think that is the most of it

With our plans this year we are leaving the landscape gear home. (Can grab quick shots with our phones if need be)

This is my custom designed vest in case you have not seen it, makes for fast deployment and super easy to handhold shots without worrying about the tripod

Took my 80D out today for a little extra reach. Still like it, but just realised how much longer it takes to autofocus than the 5DIV. Oh, and I still can't resist a robin.

Thank you, Robert!

I agree with both of you, OhLook and Mike! I mainly go by eye color here. The Hunter has pale, dull eyes, while the Thief has brighter, saturated eyes.

Now, can the Thief swallow the fish?

American goldfinches are getting darker and showing some black on the head. Unfortunately here in Texas, I won't see them in breeding plumage.

Beautiful shot of a gorgeous creature, Robert. :-)

Thank you Melissa. I do love owls.

Long ago we paddled 5-6 miles over to Cayo Costa to camp. While there a ranger came by and asked if we wanted
to see something interesting.
We walked a bit and he pointed out an Osprey nest. Nothing to see at first. He said wait a bit.
Soon enough two little GHO heads peaked over the rim....a while after mom came flying in with food.
I asked the ranger what happened to the Osprey.
He said 'the Osprey never saw death coming, probably instantly decapitated' :(
GHOs have my full on respect and admiration---the only animal that will purposely kill and eat a skunk!
