Those are beautiful shots. Are those birds rehabbed from injuries?

Mr Fluffy is an Eurasian Eagle Owl.. non native, owned by a Master Falconer that owns and does rehab on birds. Ritual is a 'rescue' of sorts, He was bred and raised by a breeder, but the breeders 8 yr old girl played with him and he had behavior problems that almost had him put down. The guy rehabbed him and now is is a total gentleman, one of the kindest birds I've ever been around. He even cuddles when he gets tired. The other bird, I don't remember if she is a falcon or a hawk, but she was a very well behaved bird, and hopefully we will get to do more with her. The owners are all licensed, and belong to their respective state falconry associations. I want to learn to rehab now, and have my own bird in the future.. but I may wait till I get my son out of the house and off to college before having one of my own, but I want to be able to help and handle them legally.

I love your horse portraits! How/where do you get them into a studio looking setting for use with your strobes?

Awesome goal KSBAL! Animal rehab is a great thing to commit to. I wish you well if you head down that path. It is good for the critter which you choose to specialize in, and it is even better for the human many times. I've had the chance to help rehab a few animals, and it is an amazing experience.

Super-duper! The contrast of the bird against the different colored background is awesome.

If I don't get the shots I want with the gear I have, the only optics I need to examine is the mirror on the bathroom wall. The root cause will be there.

Thanks, Sam.

I prefer to be in the bush with the animals than a crowded city.

Thank You!

Usually I set up in a corner of the warm up arena, or in the stall barn.. my 'studio' at home is half a 40x60 so I have enough room for head shots there at the right angles.

Hang up a back ground, watch how you have the cords set up so they have a minimum number or 0 cords to cross, and know how to read a horse.. It is very important to know horses, to get the best images, and to know your breed so you pose them correct for that.. what you do for Arabs and Gaited horses is not what you do for the stock types. :)
