A whitethroat with 2 dragonflies. I watched him take 7 Dragonflies back to his nest in a short period. A very busy parent indeed.

Do they catch them on the wing or wait until they land some place?

Interesting shot shalu. Are those snakes venomous?-?
My granddaughter’s cat dragged an adder into her house one day, everyone went into panic mode - the adder had injuries but slithered away somewhere.:-)

Thank you, Ray. No idea what snake it is, I have zero snake knowledge :p

They sure look like ravens, but can't say for sure, Shalu. I've never seen them eating a snake before, but I know that they will eat most any kind of animal they can find. Like people, they are omnivorous.

Thank you, Mike!

It's a big fish! Very nice shot, Bob!

Typical N. Mockingbird, always wanting to be at the top of things. This guy give you any vocalizations, Mike? When they get going, it's really a good show.

Matt...I did not hear any vocalizations from this mocker. However, I'm deaf in one ear, and the other is pretty bad. I haven't heard the sounds of most birds in a long time. This particular bird has nested in our front yard for a number of years now. I love watching him chase crows, Jays, cats, dogs, and people on occasion.

Thanks (as always), Mike! I like your Mockingbird image. We have so many "mockers" here (it's our state bird, after all), & I rarely photograph them. I need to find ways to capture them creatively.

Thank you very much Phil. But I also need to find more creative ways to photograph them. They are definitely one of my favorite birds. Their boldness and fearless nature has always held my attention.

I've watched them catch them on the wing only but the amazing thing is, whilst holding one in their bill they can take a 2nd and a third without dropping the 1st. If you look carefully this photo shows that he has 2.

Thank you very much Shalu.
In this photo, I believe you are correct. It surely does look more like a crow. As far as the snake is concerned, I do not believe it is a venomous snake. The only ones we have in California are the several varieties of rattlesnakes. From what I can gather from your photos, this snake does not appear to be a rattlesnake...more likely a gopher snake. Looking closely at the snake in this photo, the head is not diamond shaped like a rattler (viper), and the tail is pointed with no rattles.

These are great, Lee. The close-up is really fantastic, and the first shot shows just how great their camouflage feather pattern really is.
