My first outing of the year resulted in my best views of a Crossbill yet. This male put on a good show before taking his harem away. Shame about the background but you cant have it all.

An Inquisitive Red-Shouldered Hawk.

This hawk let me get close to within 30 feet of his perch. He looked at me inquisitively for a few seconds then decided that I was harmless. He then continued scanning around his environment, possibly looking for some food. After a few minutes, he silently jumped off the perch, flew past me and headed to the other side of the lake.

I'd rather not do it this way but with a bird that's been chased by other people the last thing I wanted to do was be one of them just to get a picture so this is how I do it.
