Thanks Mike, this was my quick safety shot to get at least one photo before I could choose a better vantage point and set up the tripod.:-)

It turned out to be my only (lucky) shot, as a big brute of an Ibis landed on the same rock, scaring the cute Grebe away before I could set up.:cry:

The neighboring farm lets their chickens roam around half the town during the day, I used that to test my new (to me) lens.
Quite happy with these two, actually.

Here are a couple from this afternoon. I am very new to bird photography, today was really my first time going out specifically for birds. I have no clue what species they are but hope to learn as I go.
