Killer shot, Mike, pose + perch + background and lighting are all on-point, especially that orange-ish lichen. You were able to get the Jay in just the spot in the tangle of branches to achieve a good balance while avoiding any major intrusions into the subject. Challenging, because as we bird photogs are only all too familiar with: "just a smidge to the left, I need to clear that one last branch and composition will be perfeccccct.... annnnnnd I just scared him away" :p

I'd have to agree with what a previous post stated, that this one is definitely up there as one of my favorite shots from your body of work, but nothing will top that Cali Quail shot from a few months back though :)

All excellent points, Eric. And you are dead on correct. I'm simply saying to folks that are on the fence, that crop sensor cameras like the 7DII and others have proven to be outstanding cameras and will continue to be. Look at all the folks here on the forms who are posting up outstanding images with their 7D's, 80D's, 90D's and others. I jumped on the mirrorless bandwagon like so many others because of all the pluses that you mentioned. It all comes at a pretty hard financial hit for many, including me. I'm not going to sit here and tell people to go out and buy an R5 just because I like mine. I would advise them to look hard at all the stuff (information, testimonials, videos, etc.) that's available, ask questions, and then decide.

Agreed.... whenever I run into people in public that are not getting the results they want/need, I always remind them:

1) Lens > Camera
2) Center Point AF
3) FULL Manual exposure, not shortcuts, no games, no auto anything!! LEARN IT!
4) Pre-Envision what you want, and why
5) Most of us are not hitting our personal limits, let alone the cameras, so there's always ways to become better without taking the buy new equipment approach
6) Have fun - While nearly all of us are always on that line blurred between frustration and accomplishment, don't forget, HAVE FUN!

You made a terrific shot out of this back lit situation, Jimmy! I really like the composition here.

Thank you, Mike!
