I love this shot. The bird, the composition, the drops of rain. Beautiful

Thanks Russ, I was dead lucky with the whole thing. I'd actually spent a while trying to shoot a pair of Kingfishers upstream from where this was shot but they weren't obliging at all (Although it's always lovely to watch them from there for a few hours while they bomb up and down on the other side of the river, even if you don't get a shot)

I called it a day and moved about a mile downstream to the salt marsh, hoping to shoot some waders. I got talking to a couple of other birders/'togs next to the hide and while we were discussing Shrike of all things (They've had a good year around our patch), this lady flew in and perched right next to us, literally just had to point and shoot!!!

I know there's a pair that feed out on the Marsh around high tide but it's the first time I've seen one anywhere near the hide or on the margins! We all fired off a few images, agreed that we lead a charmed life and got straight back into the conversation after she left.

It would have been nice if it wasn't so overcast and the Auto-ISO could have dialled back a bit but you can't have everything!! :)

We hoped she'd come back with a catch, and she did dive but took it back to one of her usual perches, out on a post in the middle of the marsh, never came back while we were there. As I said, you can't have everything and I think this image might end up being one of my top ten lifers, just for the sheer, easygoing joy of it :)

Anyhoo, thanks, hope the story didn't bore anyone!
