African Hoopoe
Yala National Park, Sri Lanka
25th December 2020 at 3pm local time

Exposure CWA +1 stop
Shadows lifted +30 in Lightroom

Edited to add that the Hoopoe was initially looking away from me so I took one shot, using the clatter of the shutter to get the bird's attention and then followed up with the second after a further split second to move the focus point over the eye (no eye recognition on a 5D IV ;-)a). For composition I got lucky that it looked left, not right.

Mountain Hawk-Eagle
Yala National Park, Sri Lanka
26th December 2020 at 2:30pm

f/8 dictated by lens and extender combo.
1/6400 driven by 560mm and 420mm equivalent focal length and being high up on a rocking 4x4 with compliant suspension in strongly gusting wind.

Given the amount of wind-induced movement both of me and the tree, focus-hunting on to the small twigs in front of the Hawk-Eagle rather than staying locked on the eye was a challenge. The bird was also silhouetted under the tree canopy so rather than over exposing the image to compensate (which would have blown out the sky and background foliage) I exposed for the background and then lifted the shadows in Lightroom (+80). No chance for decent HDR with all that movement.
