These were both very close, each nearly filled the viewfinder. I am very happy with the sharpness of this lens/2x extender combo.
I am still struggling with BIF at 800mm.

Nice work with the 400 DO. I had a tough time with flight too. I actually shut off the focus search and pre focused and that helped a bunch. I am fairly good at flight shots and this lens gave me some challenges for flight with the 2x. Everything else or the 1.4x it is awesome. Try different settings for flight with the lens, everything I normally used really did not work consistently anyway.
