Very nice! I got to see some of these eagles when I was in South Africa, but none that close. I also only had a small point-and-shoot type film camera with me at the time (yeah, it was a FEW years ago) ;-)a

They are really something!

Sort of an interesting and unscientific jump to conclusion on my part, but there are a number of Snake Eagles in Africa, most are less colorful by far, but there is another snake eating bird that is equally or even more visually stunning, and it too was evolved from raptors,. the unique and bizarre Secretary Bird.

In the Bateleur, I really started to see a lot of similarities (despite the obvious significant differences) The brighter distracting colors, the scaled armored legs, I jumped to the conclusion that looking at the two we are looking at two very distinct stages of the evolution of snake eating raptors. The Bateleur (and other snake eagles) have yet to decide to stop hunting from the sky, a decision that the secretary bird made thousandths of years ago.

I did a double take, almost looks like there's shadow on the wall.

Two incredible faces.. into faces these days. both hours old really and haven't been tarnished by man or beast yet. They both think I'm at least as good as any jay or hairy mom could ever be lol The hairy is as close to coming to hand as any hairy I have ever known.
