Two incredible faces.. into faces these days. both hours old really and haven't been tarnished by man or beast yet. They both think I'm at least as good as any jay or hairy mom could ever be lol The hairy is as close to coming to hand as any hairy I have ever known.

The peregrine falcon is the fastest bird, and the fastest member of the animal kingdom. When in its hunting dive, the stoop, it soars to a great height, then dives steeply at speeds of over 200 mph.

There is a pair less than a few minutes drive from my house in a quarry, but whenever I see them they are always so high up. This was a lucky shot where it came down to a reasonable height.

Someone told me they are one of the few birds that can break terminal velocity... not sure if that's true or not, but I've seen 'em in the dive routine, it's pretty crazy!

Yes I often watch the dive routine and try to get a photo but being in a quarry the light is so very poor and I struggle to get a decent photo with them just flying. It's a real challenge. I often see them bringing in pigeon's hoping they will go to a ledge not to high up but they seem to have their favourite spots where they are partially concealed.
