Bird activity is picking up. Locals like the Downy Woodpecker are becoming more active and migrants like the Black and White Warbler are beginning to pass through.

Woodchat Shrike (Juvenile), this is the first one I've ever seen and it was showing so well. They are very rare to see in the UK. I was reading about this bird and what surprised me was that they would eat other small birds, they will impale corpses onto thorns therefore making it easier to pick at their food.

Great find. I think most of the shrikes do this impaling behavour.

Every winter we get a Great grey in our local patch. Never managed to see it but there are lots of photogs toting 600 and 800 mm around looking.

Yes Lester your right I just recently saw a few youtube clips of shrikes doin' this. This bird has been around everyday for 2 weeks now in South Gloucester.

Not just 1 but 14 Common Snipe seen this morning all seen in the same area. Fascinating birds.
