I get pretty decent results with Lightroom and the Nik suite... but I really do need to learn Photoshop. I have the books.... and know where the tutorials are. I can't seem to get motivated, I guess. So... how are your plans on a different camera coming? 1D X mark 1 in your future? The used prices are coming down. I picked up another 1D IV for a song the other day. It looks like it's never been used. I think the guy mostly shot in a studio... plus some indoor events. Anyway, I couldn't resist it. I'm going to be shooting a wedding (not hired for the job.... just getting some photographs for my best friend who is getting married)... I'll have both cameras set up for distance stuff... 70-200 f/2.8 on one... the 100-400ii on the other. I hope I capture some interesting stuff. There will be lots of grandchildren running around and a couple of great grandchildren. I say distance because I have to make sure I'm out of the wedding photographer's way... I don't want to be "that" guy. super.. if you can get your hands on a 70-300L do so. Its a way better wedding shooter than the 100-400L. Jeff ........, 7D, 70-300L, 100-400LII

Sep 17, 2017 14:13 | #11120 Sitting near the back yard feeders, waiting for HBIF, instead I took a few portraits. Image hosted by forum (876627) © mikeivan [SHARE LINK] THIS IS A LOW QUALITY PREVIEW. These are both from about 7 meters distance, handheld, center focus point, spot meter, considerably cropped. MIKEIVAN

I don't know exactly how far away I'll be... that's why I think the 400ii might be a better choice. Personally, I've never seen anything at a wedding that I needed 400mm for. Nor my 300mm for that matter, but I understand you wanting to stay out of the way. I would take which ever one was lighter. This species is rather rare in the UK, but the airfield where I shot this bird seems to get one every year on autumn migration.
