...When I figure out how to embed images I'll try to post more every now and then.

Wherever the image is hosted, Rt-click on it to get the url. I just put the image url inside these tags:

Or you can paste & highlight the url in the post. Click MORE TOOLS & COMMANDS on the left side while you're posting which will show you a list. Click on "[IMG]" & it will add the tags to the url.

If you want to include more than 8 images, just post the url to some images without the tags.

Thanks for the info but I'm using dropbox which seems no longer to function in this way. Either I'll have to find another host or I'll use the forum upload with 2 pictures only.

doesn't this only work if the URL ends in jpg ?

I have been running some experiments to deal with a lack of sharpness in my pictures. The issue at hand is working with a tamron 150-600mm which up until now has been very sharp. I have upgraded my mount to an aftermarket gimbal mount (sevenoaks gimbal). My first thought was that I was not getting good stability from the mount. I ran an experiment with the gimbal taking pictures of a power line in my back yard. I tried all combinations of iso, f stop (and shutter speed), and found the lens and gimbal to be tack sharp, down to a very low shutter speed.
I have reached the conclusion that when photographing birds in AI Servo mode, with multiple frames (very different from the power lines), the lens is slow to focus, and between shots there is enough misfocus to reduce the image quality. The other possibility is in AI servo mode, multiple frames, with my hand on the gimbal mount, I am introducing shake and reducing image quality.

I took these pictures at Baylands Park in Palo Alto. This is a marsh area, filled with water birds. There is also a small plane airport adjacent to the park that allowed me to work on panning with the planes coming in for landing. These pictures were all taken in single frame mode, some in AI servo, and some in single shot mode. My question is, has anybody else had this sort of challenge in achieving image quality?

This last one is an artificial chicken:

I have noticed with the 7DII and Tamron 150-600 perhaps more variation between frames, often the subsequent frames in a burst are not so sharp. This seems to be the case if handheld or using support.

Another thing is some apparent movement in frames even at high shutter speeds. I have been putting this down to poor technique, But I did not see it on the 7DI. A symptom is an elongated highlights, or almost a second highlight in the eye. This is almost as if the camera is still focussing or moving the IS during the exposure. I am fairly sure this is me, even though you would expect pin sharp results at 1/1000 of a second exposure times. Again I have noticed this handheld with IS on or on a gimbal with IS off, particularly if trying to use the gimbal mounted camera at low level (where I am probably not as well balanced presumably), so again I am fairly sure this is me.

The only ting is I am sure I never saw these effects with the 7DI. Curious.

I recommend that everyone read the article. here is the link again, and again, thank you Levina

Technique I have also heard off with locked off long lenses is to place a 1-2 KG bean bad on top of the lens to help damp the vibrations. Not tried this myself.

Most members use sRGB jpgs. Try whatever you have & see if it works.

This little guy was in our yard visiting the stream. He is on a chewed beaver perch. Lighting was tough with a bit of noise but always nice to see a new species in the yard.
