What would you do?
I finally have some $$$ to spend. I can buy a 1D IV (or) 7D II to use with my 300mm f/4 IS + 2X converter. OR spend the money on a Sigma 150-600mm and keep shooting with my 7D until it finally dies. (ultimately, I'd like the canon 100-400mm mark II...but it's currently out of my budget range)

Thank you, I would never pass up on an Owl.

This past year has been very lucky in observing them.

IMO... If you are still shooting the original 7D, I would wait and see what the rumored 7D Mark III looks like. I had the original 7D and hated it. I moved to the 7D mark II and like it much better. I will be giving the Mark III a hard look when it gets announced, supposedly 1st quarter of 2018.

Unfortunately, these cameras are only in my price range if I can get great deals in the used market. Of course, when the 7D III comes out there should be more used Mark II's on the market as people upgrade.

I've shot the 7D and 1D series for a while, I'd take that 1DIV over the 7D2 personally (just preference; slightly large sensor, slightly larger pixels). I use a 300 F4L IS as well. I also have a 150-600. I prefer the 300 F4L IS with TC's honestly at this point.

Very best,

Very best,

Bigger sensor + bulletproof/anvil construction vs newer tech, familiar controls, and same battery system that I currently use. (sigh)
The reason for considering the 2 cameras I listed was the ability to focus using my 300 F/4L + 2X converter. The 70-200 F/4L + converter is very good, too.
That being said, if anyone is giving away a 300mm F2.8L or a 500mm F4... :p
