A friend was asking if I had any Goldfinch photos. I told her I had some of females as well as an immature male. She said she really liked yellow. I said, "Have you ever seen a Vireo?"

Very nice shot, how long did this little guy sit still for you?

I believe you may have a Pine Warbler here though :-) Vireos have the distinct little hook at the tip of their thicker bill, and a more bold yellow eye ring. Yet another one of the easily confused species in the world of birds.

Pine Warbler:

Hope you don't mind me sharing my terrific day with you......
I Decided to take a day off work as the weather forecast said Sun.
Such a great day, 120 miles covered, 41 bird species seen and 500+ photo’s (will probably only keep around 30). My Personal best bird of the day being the Little Stint.

Sounds like a grand day out, Paul - your Penduline Tit and Great Northern Diver shots are particularly fine. We are still waiting for a forecast of two consecutive nice days so that we can try for the Bearded Reedlings either at West Hay or Radipole Lake. Incidentally, I was a bit disappointed with my first Little Stint (in Andalucia) as it looked much like lots of other small waders. Not being a birder, I would have taken it for a Dunlin or some such if it hadn't been ID'd for me...

This will be my last post for a while. Taking some time away from the internet (not that anyone cares), though not from photography. I'm looking to be back when migration kicks off, and the time away will have helped me improve my craft :) Take care, everyone!

You know what's funny, last year I thought I was photographing a Pine Warbler. When I got home and started post, I was thrown off by the white eyes the bird had. Thinking it was a mutation or something I googled and discovered that I had in fact captured a White Eyed Vireo. Kind of ironic, right?! That's where my Pine Warbler/Vireo differentiation skill was derived :)
